Cheese!

A good houseguest is one who brings cheese from France, in this case a nice big round of Saint-Nectaire. This is a cheese which is stored on rye straw, which was evident the moment I opened it (and found a few pieces of stray straw!)

I tried my first taste yesterday. Despite the rather strong smell, it was creamy and light. I liked it plain with some crackers, but am tempted to try some recipes since I have so much to work with.

The friend who brought this delicious treat to my home says that Saint-Nectaire is quite good with potatoes. This recipe for Saint-Nectaire Potato Cake looks promising, or I might just melt it into some scalloped potatoes.
